Giving to the Gospel

WHY GIVE

Any resources or income we have as a church, we count as pure grace from the Lord.  Everything we have is a gift from the Lord and we must keep reminding ourselves and each other of that.  Scripture says that we “know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ” (2 Cor 8v9) and this ’knowing’ refers not to an academic knowledge but a  passionate, relational and transforming love for Christ which flows from understanding who Jesus is and what He has done for us on the cross.

“…though [Jesus] was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich”  (2 Cor 8v9).

GOD LOVES A CHEERFUL GIVER

Jesus’ death on the cross represents the most generous gift ever given–when the King of Glory gave up everything in order to   reconcile us to God. Giving cheerfully, sacrificially, and consistently is a part of our worship. When we are generous with others, we are reminding one another of the great generosity of our good God.

We give as an act worship and thankfulness for the grace God has shown us through Christ.  No one can tell you how much to give but instead “each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” (2 Cor 9v7).

Start giving today no matter how small or large an amount you can give. We need every member of our family giving to this gospel work so that we can together grow God’s kingdom.

This is after all who we are as a gospel family rejoicing together as servants of Christ on mission. Seeking together to reach the 1% of people around our church, city, country and continent.

GENERAL FUND

TEACHERS TO EQUIP HIS PEOPLE FOR WORKS OF SERVICE

At Hope Church most of our income is spent on staff salaries.  We deliberately have a large staff team, because we want to focus on outreach and equipping our church family.

That means we employ people specifically to focus on students, children, care ministry, training, evangelism and music for example.

The staff’s job is not to do all the work but to train others to do the work of ministry and serve one another and others with the gospel.

In 2019 we need to increase are giving to be able to afford our student work and keep training others for future church plants.  Out of every R100 given about R60 goes to Hope Church ministry, R30 to student work and R10 to training others.

BUILDING WORK FUND

PLACES THAT HELP US WELCOME NEW PEOPLE AND MINISTER TO EACH OTHER

God has provided us with a property that is strategically placed between the two main universities in Johannesburg (UJ and Wits).

In 2018 we paid off the bond on our property and are now seeking to develop our site in the next few years to be more useful for growth and for the gospel.

We want to build for the kingdom so that our buildings can be places that help us welcome new comers and minister to each other as we spend time together, being equipped from God’s word and speaking & singing the truth in love to each other.
